Convert a Bank Statement PDF to OFX
OFX is a bank statement format that many accounting programs can import. PDFtoRow writes an OFX 2.x (XML) file when your statement can be represented exactly, and leaves it out when it cannot.

- One bank statement response with the currency, the transaction list and the closing balance printed on your statement.
- Each transaction with a type (CREDIT or DEBIT), the posted date, a signed amount, a unique transaction ID, and the description as name and memo.
- Placeholder account details (bank ID PDFTOROW and account ID STATEMENT), because a PDF statement does not reliably carry them. Your accounting program may ask which account to import into.
- Plain ASCII text, with accented characters written as XML character references so every reader decodes them the same way.

</LEDGERBAL>
</STMTRS>When you get this file
- The statement is a bank account statement, not a credit card statement.
- The same currency is printed with the amounts on every row (for example $ or £), so the file can state one currency.
- Every transaction has a readable date and a non-zero amount.
- The statement shows a closing balance, which the format requires.
When it is not offered
- Credit card statements are not written as OFX.
- Statements where the amounts carry no currency, or more than one currency, because the file must name exactly one.
- Statements with a row that has no date or amount, or with no printed closing balance.
How to use it
- Convert your statement and check the free preview.
- Unlock the download and choose OFX if it is offered for your statement.
- In your accounting program, use its OFX import and choose or create the account the file should go into. Check your program’s own help for the exact steps.
OFX export: common questions
No. One payment or free claim unlocks every format that exists for your conversion: Excel, CSV and any of the formats below that could be built for your statement. You can see which are available on the download screen.
We check every OFX file with an independent OFX parser, and the structure follows the examples in the OFX 2.2 specification. We have not tested every accounting program’s importer. Programs that match accounts by bank and account ID will ask you to map the placeholder details.
QBO adds bank identifiers that Intuit controls, and QIF has no official specification and an ambiguous date format. We only offer formats we can write and check exactly.
